The SOS Band, also known as Sounds of Success, is an American R&B and electro-funk group formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1977. The SOS Band was formed by keyboardist Jason Bryant, saxophonists Billy Ellis and Willie “Sonny” Killebrew, guitarist Bruno Speight, bassist John Alexander Simpson, drummer James Earl Jones III, and vocalists Mary Davis and Abdul Ra’oof. They were initially discovered by producer Sigidi Abdullah. The SOS Band achieved commercial success in the early 1980s with their self-titled debut album released in 1980. The album included their hit single “Take Your Time (Do It Right),” which reached the top of the R&B charts and became a disco and dance anthem.
