John Thomas Salley is a former professional basketball player and talk show host from the United States. He was the first player in NBA history to win championships with three separate organisations (a feat shared by Robert Horry, Danny Green, and LeBron James), as well as the first to win a championship in three different decades. He appears on VladTV on a regular basis. Salley played power forward and centre for the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Panathinaikos, and Los Angeles Lakers after being picked in the first round of the NBA draught out of Georgia Tech in 1986. He was a long-time host of The Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports Net. He is a wellness entrepreneur, vegan campaigner, and chef.
Salley was a member of the Pistons’ era that saw three straight NBA finals appearances under the direction of Chuck Daly. Salley played alongside Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer, James Edwards, Joe Dumars, Isiah Thomas, Rick Mahorn, and Adrian Dantley on the team’s defense-oriented style of play, earning them the nickname “Bad Boys” in the NBA. After losing in seven games to the Lakers in the 1988 NBA Finals, the Pistons swept the Lakers in four games in 1989. Salley and the Pistons defeated the Portland Trail Blazers in five games in 1990.
Salley appeared on VegMichigan’s billboard ads and has spoken at Michigan’s Vegfest since 2009. In November 2009 and May 2010, he testified before the United States Congress to argue for vegetarian alternatives to be served in public schools as part of the Child Nutrition Act debates. Salley made his first appearance in the Netflix original film Nappily Ever After, starring Sanaa Lathan, in 2018, and began reprising his role as Fletcher in the Bad Boys spinoff TV series LA’s Finest in 2019.
